Physicians Assistants
Physician assistants (PA) are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with
physician supervision. A physician assistant has finished college and has two years of
intensive training in medicine in programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation
of Allied Health Education Programs (previously the American Medical Association's
Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation). Physician assistants take a
national certification examination developed by the National Commission on Certification
of PA's in conjunction with the National Board of Medical Examiners. To maintain their
national certification, PA's must log 100 hours of continuing medical education every two
years and sit for a recertification every six years. As part of their comprehensive
responsibilities, PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and
interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and in
Massachusetts can write prescriptions.
Celeste Kimball PAC is a certified physician assistant who has over 5 years experience
treating hand and upper extremity problems. She assists the physicians' and office staff
to provide better treatment for our patients.
Hand Therapists
Hand Therapists are either occupational or physical therapists who have a special interest
and training in treating hand and upper extremity problems. Our hand therapists have also
passed a certifying examination in the care of hand problems. They are available adjacent
to our office to help provide timely and appropriate care. They are experts in splinting
and providing treatment that can improve your outcome after an injury or surgery and are a
valued member of our team. Work site evaluations and functional capacity evaluation are
also available.

Medical Assistants
Medical assisting is an allied health profession whose practitioners function as members
of the health care delivery team and perform administrative and clinical procedures. The
designation Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) indicates that the individual is a graduate
of a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited
medical assisting program, has passed the Certification Examination of the American
Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), and maintains currency of the CMA credential.
Medical Assistants perform clinical and administrative duties within the supervising
physician's scope of practice to keep healthcare delivery settings running smoothly. These
include recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing
patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination. They
instruct patients about medication, prepare and administer medications as directed by a
physician, authorize drug refills as directed, telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy,
prepare patients for x-rays, remove sutures, and change dressings.
Laini Schoener and Chris Feeney have assisted us with the care of our patients for over 10
