Hand Fellowships are additional training in surgery of the hand. The physicians of Hand Surgical Associates are on the teaching staff of Tufts University and Tufts University Combined Hand Service. This involves teaching and lecturing as well as having the Hand Fellow assist in the office and operating room. Our Hand Fellows are fully trained Orthopaedic Surgeons who have finished their Orthopaedic residency and have a special interest in Hand Surgery. The hand fellowship is associated with Tufts University and the Hand Surgery staff at Tufts Medical Center and is accredited by the ACGME and RRC. The fellowship involves a year of intensive training in Hand Surgery. This will help ensure excellent care of the hand in the future.

After successful completion of the fellowship and after becoming a board certified Orthopaedist they are eligible for membership in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). The ASSH is the preeminent society for the care of the hand. To become a member of the ASSH, 50% of the candidates' surgical procedures must involve surgery of the hand and they must pass the examination for the subspeciality in surgery of the hand (formerly (CAQ), certificate of added qualification in hand surgery). After successful completion of the examination they are eligible to apply to be a member in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Qualified candidates interested in the Hand Fellowship may apply through the match or contact Starla Pathak at Tufts Medical Center at 617-636-5172 or spathak@tuftsmedicalcenter.org.  Visit our Tufts Combined Hand Fellowship website or the ASSH Tufts Combined Hand Surgery Program website.
